I'm very glad to hear about this exciting new feature. Are you planning to add it to Pocket Stackz too?

Stackz Flashcard Organizer for PC / Re: Word lists seem too long

I think the file should be divided up into lessons of about 50 words each. Maybe by mistake you are learning the whole file instead of only one lesson of it? Which word lists are you using?

Stackz - New Feature Requests / Insert example sentences automatically
« on: December 29, 2007, 06:41:03 PM »
Words from the dictionary can be automatically added to the current stack by selecting them in the dictionary pane, and then pressing the insert key.
It would be useful if the same was possible with the example sentences. There are two situations in which I think it would be useful:

Situation 1.
During testing or learning, I look up example sentences for the current word. When the results are displayed and I'm browsing through them, I would like to select one, hit Insert, and Stackz would ask me, 'Which attribute of the current card should the example sentence be inserted to?' and I could select whichever attribute I wanted. The example sentence would be inserted, and I would continue the testing or learning.

Situation 2.
I'm not in testing or learning mode, just looking up example sentences. In this case I would like to select an example sentence, hit Insert, and the example sentence is added to the currently selected stack as a new card. The Japanese portion of the example sentence would go into the default Japanese attribute, and the English portion would go into the Translation attribute.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can use CEDICT in Stackz at the moment. I tried converting CEDICT to an EUC formatted Edict file, and about 20% of the Chinese characters don't appear in the EUC version. I think EUC is only used for Japanese. Guess you have to wait until Stackz can use Unicode dictionaries.

I second this idea - it would be useful in a number of situations.

Stackz - New Feature Requests / Make on-screen buttons optional
« on: December 10, 2007, 07:32:24 PM »
I would like to be able to choose whether or not the screen buttons are displayed on the test and learning windows. By 'screen buttons', I mean the four buttons you mouse click on to show the next attribute, put the card back on the same stack, or mark it correct/incorrect.

I'm suggesting this because I have always used the arrow keys on the keyboard instead of clicking on the screen buttons - it's less physical movement, and faster. I think a lot of people will be working this way. If the screen buttons were not displayed, the attributes (i.e. the words) would be displayed a bit bigger.
You can already do this in PocketStackz, but not in the desktop version.

Thanks  :)

Also, it would be nice to be able to see the stats of each card during the testing, like is available on the PC version. For example, showing the number of successes / failures, the days since last review, etc. It keeps me more aware of my knowledge of the cards than just the colors (which can change as you go through a stack).

I agree with this. It would be useful to have this information displayed in the same way as the desktop version displays it.

I noticed that Stackz 2007 will have an example sentence feature that makes use of the Tanaka corpus. I think this is really great news, but there is actually a simple way to use example sentences in Stackz 2006, and I guess earlier versions too.
You can download the full corpus from the Monash Nihongo FTP archive, and then convert it into the EDICT format. Once you have done this, you just have to set it up as a dictionary in Stackz. I've been using it in this way for over a year, and find it very useful.

I've put a screenshot of it here:

And if any of you want a ready made version, I've uploaded one here:

Yeah, if you install Decuma onto a Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition device, the device locks up at startup and you have to do a hard reset to remove Decuma.
I've used Decuma on a PPC 2002 device and it's very nice.
After reading about the bagog Ime in this forum I installed it last night and am very pleased. I think the Character Autocomplete is by far the best
