Stackz for Windows Mobile Smartphone?
« on: October 18, 2006, 02:46:19 AM »
Any chance that we'll see a version of Stackz for Windows Mobile Smartphone in the not-too-distant future?  I ask because there are some really nice Smartphone models coming out in the next few months (like this one http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Detail.aspx?device=f164419f-eee9-4cf6-a1bd-070dbe4b5023).  It would be great to have Stackz on a device that's slim enough to fit in your pocket - in fact, it's really the only thing that's keeping me from replacing my iPaq with a smartphone. 8)

Since my pocket pc died I've been thinking about buying a windows mobile smartphone too.  Since it comes with Windows Mobile 5 installed, I just assumed the ppc version of stackz would work on it.  Not so?

How can I tell which devices stackz will work on before making a purchase?

Windows Mobile for Smartphone is a separate operating system from Windows Mobile.  Both are derived from Windows CE, so they're closely related.  However, the user interface is different.  For example, the Smartphone version is written for devices without a touch screen, so its programs have to be navigable using only keys (as opposed to using a stylus).

Right now, Stackz is only available for Windows Mobile, not Windows Mobile for Smartphones.  However, given that the two operating systems are essentially the same under the hood, I'm hoping that a port might not be far away.  Maybe?  :)

Exactly!
PocketStackz has to be redesigned to be able to work without a stylus.
It is a bit tricky, especially for the lesson list dialog.

Currently we do not plan to make a version running
under the Windows Mobile for Smartphones.

Best regards,
Konstantin

How about this phone: http://mb.softbank.jp/mb/en/product/3g/x01ht/index.html
(comes with a stylus meaning stackz will run?)

PocketStackz should work on this device.

With the vast majority of companies moving away from stylus based devices dont you think it would make sense to have the option of not requiring one?
