PocketStackz / Re: Stackz List Editor 7.0 released!
« on: April 21, 2008, 01:29:54 PM »
EDIT: I found a solution to the problem. Downloaded a demo of Standard Version 7.0, found the DLL in its directory, copied it to the List Editor's directory and uninstalled. Now the DLL is in the same directory as List Editor and it's working OK. Sorry for this post then but who knows, maybe it can be useful for someone, and maybe the DLL could be included with the List Editor install file (?).

Tried this and the error message shifted to: "Runtime error! This application havee requested the runtime to terminate it in a unusual way."

Please, anybody have a solution? I need urgently List Editor as I only have Pocket Stackz!

With my poor english I find a bit difficult to explain what I would like to see in Stackz, but I'll try:

What happens if various students want to study the same file? With actual software versions they are forced to duplicate and rename the file, a thing I find very unpractical specially in the PocketPc version, due to the small memory basic cappacity of these systems. I would like to see an option to create a "new account" for each file that could be accessible directly from the program. This would make unnecessary the creation of multiple "clone" files, and accessing to files would be much more fast and comfortable.

Also, since mastering one of the skills proposed in stackz doesn't means that you master the others (for example, you can recognize instantly all the characters, but this will do little to your writing skill), I think that it would be necessary to have the option to activate differentiated stats for each skill.

Other things: Stackz is great because is very customizable and lets the student a great freedom to modify the learning system. On the other hand, this causes the program to be less simple than other flashcard programs. I would now like to speak about the Stackz/Leitner system options. I find very useful the possibility to switch between them, but I would like too a more "automatized" option that indicated me when is better to use one or the other. i.e. a "learning system" like is there now quite well explained with "learn/test/colourmodes", but with the Leitner system integrated. Overall, I think that parallely to all the coustomizable options, there should exist a "begginner" mode with a more automatized learning system.

And what about a two-sides flashcards printing option?

With all these requirements I don't want to seem too demanding, Stackz is actually a wonderful program, but I prefer to suggest more features to you decide wich you consider more interesting and feasible.

I hope I've explained myself well :)

PD: Sorry, I've missed the one-suggestion per thread  :-\

Stackz - New Feature Requests / Re: New features
« on: June 28, 2007, 11:16:23 AM »
I think that audio playbacks are a must for the program, and they would improve it greatly! Some months ago I had passed the basic HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, Chinese proefficiency test), and though I remembered quite well all the basic characters, when the oral comprehension part came, I was unable to understand 90% of the words!! Oral comprehension cannot be practized only through reading of characters and his transcription, and oral test is one of the few things I miss in stackz!

The option to playback the own voice is a very nice feature that can be found in other flashcards programs, and essential for the student not depending on realeaser's updates of sound files. What could be done if one wants to be able to understant inmediately a pronounced complex sentence? Without this option, the student could only hope that the releaser launches a sound file with the sentence (so unlikely to happen), or wait the implementation of one of these read-to-speech add-ons so slow and artificial.

But the oter features listed are also very interesting! The improved management would be very nice if for example a "Find and replace" option or a corrector (this would be more difficult to implement) were implemented.

The test tool requiring to type the answers is somewhat implemented in the pocket-pc version (I've tried only the 2007 beta) with it's handwriting option and I found it awesome!

I'm very happy to see that the staff is aiming to improve the software in these areas, stackz! is actually one of the top flashcards programs (the top, for me, import wizard is totally KICKASS), and these features would definitely make the difference!!
